Welcome to Gasoline Alley’s Birthday Bash new and improved Website! Ironically, this annual street rod event, now viewed by many as one of the premier street rod events in all of southern Nevada, had very humble beginnings. The concept began when Mike Kinney moved onto Hollowbluff Avenue, affectionately named “Gasoline Alley” in January of 2000. Mike soon realized that several of his new friends, including his next door neighbor, Bob Simkins, shared his interest in street rods. When Bob and Mike also realized that their birthdays were only a few days apart, the idea for a birthday party and street rod gathering was formed. That same year, the first Bob & Mike‘s Birthday Bash was held in late May, and consisted of Mike Kinney, Bob Simkins, a few good friends, and seven cars. Since its’ inspection, this event, now entitled Gasoline Alley’s Birthday Bash, has expanded to a two-day show, complete with live entertainment and fantastic park location.
The Gasoline Alley’s Birthday Bash Event Steering Committee also appreciates that such an innovate approach to holding a street rod event has made Gasoline Alley’s Birthday Bash an event of choice for attendees from throughout the Southwestern United States, including southern California, Arizona, Utah, as well as the greater Las Vegas Valley. While we will always strive to improve the overall quality of our event, we won’t deviate from our founding strategies. Namely, to provide a family friendly, high quality street rod event that benefits the children of southern Nevada.
We want to personally thank one and all for their continued support of our event, which has generated over $155,000 for local children’s charities to date. This phenomenal total is a direct reflection of the dedication of the Gasoline Alley Birthday Bash Event Steering Committee and volunteers, our sponsors, as well as everyone who honors us by their participation during the event weekend. Beginning with our 2005 event, we’ve had the privilege to support The Lili Claire Foundation Family Research Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Having representatives of The Lili Claire Foundation participate in our event and also assist with presentation of trophies during our Parade of Champions, which serves as a poignant reminder of the essential services provided by this incredible organization.
With the ongoing support of street rodders throughout the Las Vegas Valley and the Southwestern United States, our valued sponsors, as well as those who simply enjoy participating in this incredible hobby we affectionately refer to as “divine madness”, Gasoline Alley’s Birthday Bash will continue to expand its ability to assist these very special children and the families that love them.
Working together towards this goal, we can continue to change children’s lives, thereby leaving a profound legacy in addition to providing a brighter future for the next generation. Our heart felt thanks once again…

In addition to these activities, there were over 40 vendors “on the grass”, offering a wide variety of foodstuffs, including ice cream, burritos, shaved ice, soft drinks, and of course, hot dogs! Numerous vendors also had lots of choices for those “gotta have” purchases, including shirts, collectibles, and garage art.Consistent with our founding principles of providing an innovative street rod event, participants were provided with an event T-shirt, dash plaque, drink koozie and a “goodie bag” that was rumored to weight at least 8 pounds! All those in attendance were afforded the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for an astounding array of items, including dinner and/or shows at some of the finest restaurants/hotel and gaming properties on the Strip, race team memorabilia, garage art, street rod components, car cleaning products, automobile/racing collectibles, and weekend getaways!
Over 40 trophies were awarded this year, including a very special award presented by a Lili Claire Foundation family to a very humbled recipient. The ”Top Twenty trophies“ were once again provided by Highway 61 Collectibles. Every recipient of these trophies was stunned with the exceptional detail and quality of these amazing examples of collectable art. Similar to previous years, everyone stayed to participate in the awards ceremony, including cheering for their favorites.
Since the expansion of our event to a two-day show, Gasoline Alley’s Birthday Bash has continued to grow, both in number of vehicles as well as members of the general public in attendance. Average vehicle count now exceeds 350, with approximately 5,000-6,000 people in attendance. The kick-off party held at the Cannery Hotel & Casino on the Saturday of Memorial Weekend always proves to be a big hit with dedicated parking, live bands, and a wide variety of select vendors.
On the Sunday of Memorial Weekend, our event then moves to Eldoraro Park in North Las Vegas, where hundreds of street rods, hot rods, customs, muscle cars, imports, low riders, and customs are placed “On The Grass”. Throughout the day, participant and members of the general public are treated to a wide variety of activities and entertainment. Examples include gymnastic teams, Shriner Clowns, live performance by Forever Plaid, and race car/monster truck displays. Complimenting this carnival like atmosphere is a series of vendors/exhibitors (averaging 30-40) offering a vast array of food stuffs, memorabilia, apparel, and those all important “gotta have” purchases. Car show entrants also receive an event T-shirt, dash plaque, drink kozzie, and huge goodie bag containing decals, company catalogs, as well as a listing of event sponsors.
While at the park, children are provided with a series of activities, including trivia pursuit (where everyone’s a winner!), crossword puzzles and special goodie bags. Event trophies are presented during our “Parade of Champions”, where vehicles are driven to the event stage by the lucky winners. Our event then concludes with a very unique “In The Air” celebration, where all attendees have the opportunity to catch a multitude of items thrown into the crowd, including ball caps, mardi gras beads, miniature foam foot balls, and numerous other items.
